Car crime is becoming far more organized these days and before you even have a chance of blinking, your precious car could be whipped off the drive and gone. Of course, criminals are always going to go for the easiest of options so you have to ensure that you do everything you can to make it as difficult as possible.
Many people get out of their car and leave it running for a few moments. A good opportunist will strike when an opportunity presents itself. Always make sure that you close all of the windows and lock the doors and of course the boot even if your back is turned for just a few minutes.
Choose your parking spot wisely. Try to find a well-lit area that is visible. It is always best to not leave your car in a car park for too long, you will be amazed at how many car thieves are lurking keeping an eye out for their next vehicle. Make it as difficult as possible for the thief to maneuver the car out of the parking space. Ensure you turn the wheels in the direction of the curb and then lock the steering. Planning on parking the car up for days? Think about taking out the fuses but remember to replace them when you need to start the car.
Another great way to help prevent car crime is to etch the windows. Having the unique VIN etched on the windows will make it more difficult for them to steal the car and to change its identity. It’s more trouble than its worth to replace all of the windows.
Do not leave your car keys lying around at work or at home. Keep them away from the windows or doors and don’t have your name and address on your keys. These simple changes can make a difference to keeping your pride and joy safe.
